Poster, Framed Print or Canvas: Which Should You Buy?

A poster is the print on its own at £45. A framed print is the same artwork supplied ready to hang at £95. A canvas is stretched over a wooden frame, needs no glass and hangs straight out of the box, at £100. All three carry the same original portrait, drawn by hand by FIFA-commissioned sports artist Jim Scullion and printed only by PLZ Soccer.

What size is A1, A2 and A3?

A-series sizes halve each time. A1 is twice the area of A2, which is twice A3.

A1 is roughly the width of a two-seat sofa and works as the single focal point on a wall. A2 suits an alcove, a landing or a gallery wall alongside other pieces. A3 is the desk, shelf or small-wall size. A4 is available on framed prints only.

Which should I buy?

Buy the poster if you already have a frame, or want to choose your own

At £45 it is the cheapest way to own the artwork, and the only option if you want a particular frame, mount or colour to match a room. A-series sizes fit standard off-the-shelf frames, so you are not tied to a specialist framer. The trade-off is that the cost of a decent frame can close most of the gap to the framed print.

Buy the framed print if you want it finished and on the wall the same day

It arrives ready to hang with the glazing already in place. It is also the only format available in A4, which makes it the one to pick for a small wall, a desk or a gift that needs to post easily. The limitation is the range: only Pelé and Ronaldo are sold framed.

Buy the canvas if you want no glass and no reflection

The print is stretched over a wooden frame, so there is no glazing to catch the light from a window or a television. It hangs straight out of the box. At £100 it is the most expensive of the three, and the texture of canvas is a different look from paper — softer, less sharp, more like a painting than a print.

Common questions

Does the poster come framed?

No. The poster is the print on its own at £45. Framed prints are a separate product at £95.

Will the poster fit a standard frame?

Yes. A1, A2 and A3 are standard international paper sizes, so any off-the-shelf frame sold in those sizes will fit.

Why is A4 only available framed?

A4 is offered on the framed prints because it is the size that suits a desk or a small wall, where a frame is usually wanted anyway. Posters start at A3.

Can I get every player in every format?

Almost. All 21 subjects are available as posters, canvases, t-shirts and ladies t-shirts. Framed prints are currently limited to Pelé and Ronaldo.

Is this official club merchandise?

No. These are original portraits drawn for PLZ Soccer by Jim Scullion. They are not licensed by any club and you will not find them on another retailer, a marketplace or a print-on-demand site.
